Referencing the Aunt Jemima stereotype to set the stage, Dr. Brenda Dixon Gottschild travels into the present via her Afro-expressionistic interpretations of selected excerpts from female writers of the African Diaspora, along with dancers’ statements in Dixon Gottschild’s own work, “The Black Dancing Body.” This performative lecture will feature accompaniment by noted jazz vocalist and pianist V. Shayne Frederick. This event is free, open to the public, and will be followed by a community reflection with the artists.
